Safety Management Council Minutes
June 5, 2008
Chairman Carl Salazar called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.
Carl asked for and received self introductions.
The April minutes were approved as mailed, and the Financial Report
was read and approved.
Keynote Speaker
Today’s speaker was Max Haynes from Ergo Med. Max discussed
ways in which companies can control costs associated with worker injuries
and work comp claims. Physicals which include range of motion
pre-screening can establish baselines for your employees. Further
injuries then can be compared against those baselines.
Cpt. Mark Savage also discussed the Democratic National Convention,
and how it will impact trucking through the Denver region. He
will keep us posted.
In addition, Carl Salazar reviewed the Roadeo and thanked all the
volunteers, donors and drivers. Review comments are0 necessary,
so anyone with comments please contact Carl or Patti.
Council Reports
CSP - Cpt. Gary Torgerson will be retiring in July.
CMCA - Highway Watch is no longer a viable training program. Contact
Patti. If you are having trouble with revocable permits, please
contact Patti. Laminated medical cards are now officially accepted
by all CO DMVs. Contact Patti if you want a copy of the letter.
Planned Council Activities
- 2008 Calendars are available from Patti. Mark your calendars
now!
- Rendezvous is July 16-18
Chairman’s Report
A reminder that we will be hosting the 2008 Rocky Mountain Regional
Safety Rendezvous from July 16-18 in Steamboat Springs. Please
plan on attending. And, we’ll need help with volunteers,
committee members and sponsorships, so if you’re interested
in helping contact me or Patti. We will be having a planning
meeting on Monday, January 21st at 1pm.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Roadeo and the Road Checks
this past month.
CMCA members raised almost $3000 for Special Olympics at the Roadeo
and Convoy. We will keep you posted on future activities to support
this great cause.
Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on July 10th, not
July 3rd, due to the Holiday..
Old Business
CMCA is still working on A/V solutions. And the Logo Catalog. We’ll
keep you posted.

July 10, 2008
Chairman Carl Salazar called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m.
Carl asked for and received self introductions.
The Mayminutes were approved as mailed, and the Financial Report was
read and approved.
Keynote Speaker
Today’s speakers were Craig Peters and Steve Bates from Operation
Lifesaver. The discussion was around large trucks / train crashes
and rail grade crossing safety. Operation Lifesaver has a new
video featuring trucks, which is quite good. The gentlemen offered
to conduct in-house safety meetings for all our members. Steve
Bates is in the Denver Region at 303-870-7394 and Craig Peters is in
the Platteville area at 970-846-3104.
Cpt. Mark Savage also discussed the Democratic National Convention,
and how it will impact trucking through the Denver region. He will
keep us posted.
In addition, Carl Salazar reviewed the Rendezvous plans and thanked
all the sponsors and volunteers. There is still room, so register
quickly.
Council Reports
CSP - Cpt. Mark Savage brought HM routing maps for the Democratic
National Convention. Call CMCA for more copies.
CSP – HM – Public hearings are being conducted to review
HM routes. Contact Allan Turner for more information.
CDOT – Teresa Carrillo discussed information about the OS / OW
Divisible Load rulemaking schedule for quad axle trailer units.
ATA – John Daschke reviewed ATA comments and positions on the Drug/Alcohol
testing changes, the EOBR webinar and the CDL rulemaking.

Chairman’s Report
A reminder that we will be hosting the 2008 Rocky Mountain Regional Safety

The Ray Smith Scholarship Committee is selling raffle tickets to raise
money for scholarships. The prize is a 50” Plasma Television,
donated by DG Coleman. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. They
make great driver appreciation gifts, safety incentives, etc. See
Patti or Tracey to purchase them.
The Colorado State Patrol is holding a fundraising golf tournament on
Sunday, July 20th at Riverdale Dunes. Proceeds go to help one of
the officers who is battling cancer. Entry forms are up front,
and have been emailed to you.
We will be setting up a Driver Appreciation event for the week of August
24th. If you can help out, please let Patti know so she can plan.
Old Business:
The audio/visual remodel for downstairs will happen Monday – we
are getting a new sound system and video projection system with monitors
in the dining room and back of this room – stop by to see the finished
product!
CMCA Logo catalog is being finished up – we are in final proof
stages for the flyers. You will be able to purchase CMCA merchandise
and get Safety Council, Allied Conference, or Maintenance Council items
as well.
New Business:
Bob Appel from Roadway Express is retiring. He thanked the Council
for being included in our Safety programs, and hopes he can continue. Special
thanks to the CSP, Chris Mann and Tom Lee.
